Privacy
The short version: Wordbrush has no ads, no tracking SDKs, and no account. Your studying stays on your device. The Android app currently has no subscription and touches the network for nothing at all. On iPhone and iPad, the one thing that touches the network is your subscription: purchases are handled by Apple, with RevenueCat managing the subscription itself, and that involves an anonymous purchase ID that is never tied to your name or email, because we never ask for either.
What Wordbrush knows about you
Almost nothing. We don't ask for your name, email, phone number, age, contacts, photos, microphone, or calendar. There is no account to create.
The Android app currently has no subscription and no purchase data. On iPhone and iPad, when you subscribe, we use RevenueCat to manage the subscription: to know whether it is active and to restore it if you reinstall or move to a new device. RevenueCat assigns an anonymous ID to the purchase. It is not linked to your name or email, because we never collect either. See Subscriptions and payments below.
Wordbrush will ask for your location only if you choose to turn on smart-commute reminders, an optional feature that nudges you to study when you arrive at a spot you pin yourself (e.g. the station near home). The coordinate is held on your device and registered with the operating system as a geofence; it is never read or transmitted by us. Turn the reminder mode off and the coordinate is discarded.
On Android 13+, Wordbrush will also ask for permission to post notifications. This is only used to fire the daily reminder you configure in the app. We never send marketing notifications, and there is no server that could push anything to your device.
What Wordbrush stores on your device
Your review history, which cards you've seen, when you saw them, how you rated them, when they're next due, is stored locally inside the app's private storage on your device (SwiftData on iOS, Room on Android). The operating system encrypts this storage at rest the same way it does for every app's local data.
Wordbrush never reads or transmits this data anywhere. There is no Wordbrush server.
What Wordbrush transmits over the network
Your studying transmits nothing. The app makes no network calls during a study session. Every word, every audio recording, every example sentence, every radical breakdown is bundled into the app at install time and stays on your device.
The one exception is your subscription on iPhone and iPad. To start a trial, subscribe, or restore a purchase, the app talks to Apple and to RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. That exchange carries the anonymous purchase ID described below and nothing about who you are. The Android app currently has no subscription and makes no such calls.
The audio recordings shipped inside the app were pre-generated using Google Cloud's Text-to-Speech service at content-build time, before the app was distributed. The app itself never calls Google or any other service at runtime.
Subscriptions and payments
The Android app currently has no subscription and no purchase data at all. On iPhone and iPad, Wordbrush is a subscription; current pricing is shown in the app and on the App Store listing. Payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store), so we never see or store your card details. RevenueCat, our subscription-management provider, records an anonymous purchase ID and your subscription status so the app knows your access is active across your devices and reinstalls. RevenueCat is not an advertising or tracking service; it exists only to manage subscriptions. If you downloaded the iPhone app while it was free, you keep it free forever: there is no subscription and no purchase data at all.
Crash reporting
If you opt in to share diagnostics with developers, the platform may share anonymized crash reports with us. On iOS this lives at Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers; on Android, at Settings → Google → Usage & diagnostics. We use the reports only to fix the bug that crashed your session. They contain no personal information.
Live chat support
If you tap chat with us or Need help in the app, Wordbrush opens an in-app chat powered by Crisp. Messages you send, your app version, subscription status, and basic device info (iOS version, device model) are shared with Crisp so we can help you. Crisp is not used for advertising or tracking. If you never open the chat, none of this is sent.
Tracking
None. Wordbrush shows no ads and implements no advertising or analytics tracking SDKs. No cookies. No ad identifiers. No fingerprinting. No cross-app or cross-site tracking. On iOS, NSPrivacyTracking is declared false in the app's privacy manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) which Apple validates at submission; RevenueCat's subscription SDK is disclosed there as required, but it is used to manage subscriptions, not to track you. The only data associated with you on iPhone and iPad is your purchase and subscription status, it is never shared for advertising, and there is no other collection. The Android app currently has no subscription, and its Google Play Data Safety form reflects no data collection at all.
Your rights under GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws
These regulations give you rights, access, correction, deletion, portability, the right to know what's collected, and so on, over personal data that a company holds about you. The only data connected to you, and only if you subscribe on iPhone or iPad, is an anonymous subscription ID with no name, email, or contact information attached, held by our payment providers to keep your subscription working. The Android app currently has no subscription and holds no such data. Deleting the app immediately erases the entire local history on your device; there is no remote copy of your review history. If you would also like your subscription records removed, get in touch and we will ask RevenueCat to delete them.
Children
Wordbrush is suitable for all ages. We collect no personal data, from children or anyone else.
Changes to this policy
If Wordbrush ever changes what it collects, this page will be updated and the change will be highlighted at the top of the app on the first launch after the change ships.
